The Red Desert
El Desierto Rojo
The Red Desert, North America, is a high-altitude cold winter desert featuring a varied landscape of buttes, dunes, sagebrush steppe, mountains and rocky pinnacles. “The collection site is a vegetated sand dune on grazing land, 100 yards south of the main dune field. Sample is medium brown in colour, upper fine grain sized sub-rounded to rounded quartz sand grains with occasional larger coarse-sized quartz grains. The Killpecker Sand Dunes extend for more than 55 miles east to west and are reported to be the largest active sand dune complex in the United States.” Jerry Bergosh
